About Us

We see ourselves as a place where a culture of togetherness and appreciation comes first, where new ideas are implemented without hesitation, decisions are made quickly, and global approaches are combined with regional methods. For us, innovation is not just a trend but part of our DNA.

The Beginning

In 2018, the five founders of the IT service provider APPMEA GmbH set themselves the goal of developing their own app for the complete digitalization of community life. Just a few months after this decision, citiesapps S&R GmbH was founded, and about a year later the time had come: The CITIES app launched in July 2019 in Fürstenfeld with great success, setting entirely new standards at that time.

Step by Step on the Right Path

In the following two years, we reached the next milestones with the successful acquisition of many well-known towns. Among them were municipalities of great economic and social importance and supraregional reach, such as Villach, Wolfsberg, Tulln, Saalfelden, or Eisenstadt – the first provincial capital represented on CITIES.

CITIES next

These successes are an impressive proof that our concept works. Therefore, we decided to fundamentally revise CITIES both technically and in terms of content. In 2023, CITIES was raised to a level that meets Silicon Valley standards – CITIES next was launched. CITIES evolved from an app into a platform: with a new infrastructure, an additional web version, and new features. This enables us to offer our services to millions of users and customers in different languages.

CITIES Websites

Directly after CITIES next, another milestone followed: our municipal websites. With this new product, we strengthened the presence of our partners and provided communities with a thoughtful and interconnected solution for their web presence. Inspired by the success, we expanded our portfolio in 2025: since then, businesses and associations have also been able to create their own website with just one click. The special feature of the CITIES websites: thanks to smart linking, content from the CITIES page can automatically be adopted on the website. With these websites, CITIES becomes the all-in-one solution for municipalities, businesses, and associations.

Beyond Borders

In our home country Austria, we have experienced rapid growth in recent years and are now represented nationwide. Our success shows that our approach also convinces internationally: in 2025 we achieved expansion into the DACH region. With Berchtesgaden, Marktschellenberg, and Bischofswiesen, three municipalities in Germany joined at once. In the same year, Balgach also chose CITIES, becoming the first municipality in Switzerland.

Where We Are Heading!

For the coming months and years, we have set ambitious goals. This includes not only continuous development and new functions but also the ambition to fully digitalize all aspects of community life and to build a Europe-wide network. Our vision: CITIES as Europe’s super app. Millions of citizens, businesses, and associations will then find everything they need for daily life bundled on one platform.
